Get Started Simply, Now

You Don’t Need Costly AI Solutions to Get Smarter with Data. Try These 3 Simple Prompts Instead.

3 simple example prompts to try to answer a leadership question about data use: How can we better use the data we’re already collecting from fields, equipment, or customers, and how do we improve data tracking, data insights, and data simplicity?

  1. “Summarize the key trends in this uploaded spreadsheet of our crop yields by field location over the last five years. Identify any patterns or opportunities.”

  2. “Suggest five ways a mid-sized farm operation could use existing weather and soil data to make better planting decisions.”

  3. “Given this list of customer feedback, what are the top three areas we should improve in our service to farm clients?”

Helping medium-sized businesses, such as those in Agriculture, adopt and scale AI successfully without hype. If you’re not in the Ag field, swap out the nouns to adapt to your own industry.

Steps to follow. If you haven’t used LLMs much before:

  1. In a browser window, enter only one of these and just the free model: “chatgpt.com”, “gemini.google.com”, “claude.ai”, “copilot.microsoft.com”.

  2. CAUTION: Anonymize any data you load up, so your organization and personal information are not identifiable.

  3. Provide context before the prompt to get more tailored answers.

  • Before the prompts above, put in context such as your role, and what you expect as an outcome. E.g. “In the role of a manager for a private farm…” and then the prompt, and

  • Then optionally, after add: “… provide the result in a graphical image”, or “… explain your reasoning”, or “provide your sources.”

  • Be careful of the result because AI models can make up stuff, called “hallucination”.

Note that in the above examples you have shifted from using available web information in a “browsing” sense to using web information in an analysis and decisions sense, more like a strategic partner, which is why AI represents such a shift.

Using AI needs to become an organizational change, in essence, “upgrading” everyone together. Change in an organization is most permanent and advantageous to long term growth and sustainability when it is done organically, together increasing in maturity through five levels. For now, focus everyone on getting to the first level that is with personal experience using LLMs.

There is so much information available on prompts right now that it’s become important to be focused on purposeful use and setting appropriate expectations.
